All in one update

Here’s a biggie all in one update.

Jerry – Don’t have any details but it sounds like his condition continues to worsen. It sounds like he’s getting to the point he was at shortly before I visited him. Had he not had aggressive medical intervention then, he likely would not have survived more than a few days. He may be at that point again and I do not know what the strategy will be regarding medical intervention.

Marshall – Already reported the bad news there. No big update.

Scott – Thyroid cancer confirmed. His particular cancer is the best variant of the best kind of cancer to have. However, the tumor was metastatic, so it’s a bit more advanced than is ideal. The current plan is to remove the thyroid and lymph nodes soon.

Obviously lots of prayer for the above would be wonderful.

At home, apparently Edison is a little under the weather. Had a fever yesterday. Aside from that and some continuing ‘issues’ with him (the details of which would probably embarrass him if he knew I wrote about them), it sounds as though all’s well there.

Today will be Sim 2. Yesterday went well. We continue to stay ahead of the game. We did V1 cuts for the first time. They went acceptably well. The way things are handled here are a bit different than in the MD-11, but I’ll get the hang of it soon enough. We also did some oddball electrical failures which were kind of entertaining. Didn’t do the PAR… maybe today? We sim again tomorrow, then have a day off.

Our first ‘new’ (for us) DC-10 is in its second week of flying. It’s moved around but it sounds like they’re still getting the kinks worked out. The second ‘new’ (for us) DC-10 is now showing up on the flight plots but it’s not out of maintenance yet and won’t be for a little while (I don’t know what that means… weeks??). Our first 747 is also showing up on the flight plots now and rumor is it’ll show up on the ramp in Atlanta on the 21st. Maybe I’ll get to see it when I’m there on the 25th?

That’s all for now…

Yes, he was embarrassed as it is that I told *you*. I assured him that I tell you everything (like he didn’t know that???) and that you would be talking with him when you got home.
He ran a fever most of the day today also. It got up to 101.6 when I gave him a dose of Motrin. He took a nice long bath and his fever has been down for a few hours now. He is still coughing up a storm though and it keeps him from sleeping well. Poor sweetie. There’s a quickie update.
    XOXO

    Thanks for the update
Even though there’s not much positive there on the health front with family and friends. Sorry to hear that 🙁

      Re: Thanks for the update
LOL… V1 means Velocity #1, which is the takeoff decision speed (or maybe even more accurately, the reject action speed). It’s the speed at which you must have taken the first action(s) to reject a takeoff in order to be able to stop on the runway, and after which you continue the takeoff even with an engine failure (or other malfunction). As luck would have it, they’re sharing ‘my’ V1 cuts with the F/O too 😉
YW on the post card 🙂
