Day 3: starting to notice improvement in pain level with a given quantity of medication. This seems to be a good and expected development.
I thought it would be fun, interesting, or at least blog-like to jot down some thoughts about this surgery. In no particular order, here we go:
My nap during surgery was not nearly long enough. Next time, they shouldn’t work so hard to wake me up. And I’d appreciate it if they wouldn’t stab me in the groin while I sleep. Men should never be stabbed there…. especially not during nap time.
My impression is that, while percocet is obviously stronger than advil (in so many ways), the advil actually lasts longer. The percocet makes me happier, though, so they make for a great combination.
I’m pretty sure the percocet causes me to be over sensitive to noise. I even sound loud to myself. Yes, it’s very strong.
I had no idea I used my groin so much. And no, I’m not talking about *that*. Just rolling, moving, or trying to get out of bed requires significant planning, contortion, and facial expression. *That*, on the other hand, requires a different type of planning, contortion and facial expression. There is a difference, but, for the first time in my adult life, I’m not very interested in experiencing it right now.
Having a nest is very helpful. I have my water, drugs, phones (the modern day version of the bell), and the all-important laptop. Without a laptop with internet access, I’d be insane right now……..
Long stretches alone with drugs produces fascinating streams of thought which go largely unrecorded. Whether or not that’s good or bad will forever be a mystery.
Now that I’m starting to feel a little better, I’m realizing I’ll need to come up with more excuses as to why I need to call someone else in the house to bring me water, turn lights on and off, and tell me to relax and take it easy. For future reference, those excuses should not involve getting stabbed in the groin.
I came home from the hospital with an ice pack. Edi decided she would get the ice pack she used for her foot ready so she could have two available to rotate. The one they gave her for her not-so-large foot is a large. The one they sent me home with for my groin is a small. She made sure to point that out to me.
Olive Garden’s new chicken soup is great for any illness. I had some in December when I had a head cold and loved it. When I got home from the hospital I had a bowl and loved it. Next time, though, I should approach the first meal a little differently. Having an entire bowl of chicken soup with a milk of magnesia chaser right after anaesthesia was nearly disastrous.
Last but not least… I itch…
