Laptop round two

After just under a week of ‘playing’ with my new laptop, I’m calling it good. Initially, I thought I’d just install Mandriva Linux and go on my merry way, but I thought it might be more beneficial for both myself and others to take some extra time and document the uniqueness of both this laptop and getting Mandriva running on it. This page is the result.

It took a bit of tweaking to get it just right. The media buttons didn’t work out of the box and my method for figuring out how to get them working turned out to be a bit … wrong. I finally figured it out and it’s really quite simple *if* you know which multimedia keyboard to select. The problem was figuring out which one to select. Wifi took a little work to figure out also. And there’s no java plugin for 64 bit browsers in Linux (is there in Windows?!?). I tried several solutions there before I finally came up with an acceptable workaround.

Now that I’ve got it all working, I love it! And, thanks to unixronin I got LogJam (the application I’m typing this on right now) recompiled with, among other things, the location field included! Yeah! 😉
