The fate of Mr. Hat now enables me to put an intuitive name on an entire branch of philosophy known to me to exist but heretofore unnamed. It will, today, be called the hat philosophy. So what does the fate of Mr. Hat have to do with philosophy anyway? Before … Continue reading →

Obviously I’m back to writing. I’m going to be operating differently this time around. There are two changes I’ll be making: 1: Some public topical posts will be written with syndication in mind. Though I don’t have anything established yet, there are some topics that I am likely to write … Continue reading →

Went to the JZ Club in Hangzhou, China last night. The original JZ Club is in Shanghai, China, but they opened up another location in Hangzhou a year or three ago (I’m not exactly sure when). There aren’t so many jazz clubs in the world, but you can probably count … Continue reading →

Livejournal is banned in Hangzhou, but not in Shanghai. Strange, eh? You’d think if it’s unacceptable in Hangzhou, it’d also be unacceptable in Shanghai. Must be a different bureaucrat handling censorship in that province. 😉 V-

On this Shanghai layover that I’m on now, I decided to take a trip down to Hangzhou. It’s only a couple hours away by train and there’s some sights to see… touristy kinds of things I guess. More than anything, it’s just a nice little getaway I guess. I came … Continue reading →

Went to the House of Blues and Jazz tonight in Shanghai. Heard the Theo Croker Quintet. They’re all pretty young (Theo’s 22 and the rest are in that ballpark). The group is Theo Croker on Trumpet, Charles Foldesh on Drums, Tobin Chodos on Piano, Rob Adkins on Bass, and Heidi … Continue reading →

So I made it back to Shanghai this morning for the first time in months (since June). Feels so familiar… almost like home… Okay, not really, but it does feel good to be back. I like this place… Music tonight, touristy things tomorrow… 😉 V-

No hats

The Captain wakes me up… “want to meet at the bar in a few?” So I wander up to the bar. The bar tender tells me I can’t wear a hat in there. Whaaaaat? So, he and I (messy hair and all) and the other F/O sit down for a … Continue reading →

I rode United Airlines from Washington Dulles to London Heathrow a couple nights ago. I wound up sitting next to an Irish guy who works for the State Department. He was nice and talkative. It didn’t take long for the topic of conversation to turn to government. The next night, … Continue reading →
