I was a bit surprised yesterday morning when I woke up, opened the curtains, and saw thick fog. It sprinkled a bit the previous night but it seemed nice overall. I had gotten used to the surprisingly good weather in Anchorage and felt kinda ‘down’ with all the fog.
We headed out to the airport to go to Los Angeles and back. Was the Captain’s turn to fly and I was supposed to fly back to Anchorage so I sat in the right seat for the whole trip. We did the typical Runway 32 departure which features a small turn shortly after take to 300 degrees.
It didn’t occur to me to check on how high the tops of the clouds were. In a fairly short period of time, we poked out the top to find crisp clear sunshine. Just ahead and to the right were some fairly large mountains that were incredibly crisp and well defined. Before I could even think to say something, the ‘scribe’ (the other F/O sitting in the jumpseat) said “Is that Denali?” It was the best view of Denali any of the three of us had ever had.
If only I had my camera out…..
