Taking the plunge

So I took the plunge and signed up for a paid account. Now I can post via
email, which might (maybe) help me post more often. I can only hope anyway.
I will say, though, it’s nice to interact with an organization that uses
PGP/GPG encryption technology.

I’ve taken the plunge in other ways, too. As some of you may know, I’m the
2005 Porcupine Freedom Festival ‘Czar’. Now I’ll tell ya, I didn’t pick the
title, but it’s just funny enough that I’ve decided to keep it. I’m now Czar
Varrin. How powerful! Har har…

And, as if I haven’t already done enough plunging, I’ve decided to take on yet
another position with the Free State Project: Director of Development. So
if I come asking you for money, now you know I’m just doin my job! Lisa got
our first fundraising drive going and we all owe her a big thanks for making
that happen. So now I’ll pick up where she left off and figure out what
comes next in the area of development.

The way I see it, development means more than money. In fact, the FSP is
really an entirely development oriented organization. It takes resources to
change the world. Resources come in the form of time, money, talent, and
energy. In many ways, they can all be interchanged. We simply aim to
concentrate resources of liberty in the state of New Hampshire.

Indeed our first development drive highlighted that. Not only did we ask for
money (an essential part of any successful endeavor), but we asked for time,
talent, and energy. We asked everyone, all 6,000 or so people we mailed to,
if they would tell others about the FSP personally, use media to tell others
about the FSP (radio call-ins and/or LTE’s), and attend FSP events. Every
Porc can contribute something, be it some time, some talent, some energy, or
some money. Some will even contribute all four.

So as I move into this new roll, my job is to figure out how to invite,
inspire, and invigorate so that every FSP Participant and Friend is ready to
do more than ever before to make this project a smashing success.

And I do all that while moving to New Hampshire myself. For Porcupines, that
truly is the invitation, the inspiration, the source of invigoration…

On to the Free State!
