She’s such a …

I probably shouldn’t post this. I’m really not fond of gossip. But it’s not
so much the gossip, but my ‘closer’ that got me (and everyone else)
chuckling.

I pretty much get along with everyone at work. And almost always when there’s
someone I don’t get along well with, it’s the kind of person that almost
nobody gets along with. Well, the person in question, let’s call her Jane,
is fairly well known around here, but not because everyone hates her. I
couldn’t guess the percentages, but maybe half of the people just love her.
The rest can’t stand her. In order to keep from disliking her, I study her.
But it’s really almost impossible to neither love nor hate her. Her
personality is just that strong.

As much as I hate gossip, there I was in the middle of this circle talking
about her, almost right in front of her. Jane was, of course, noticeably
intoxicated, dancing, having a grand time and (most importantly) being Jane.
Naturally, everyone had something to say, and, among this group, none of it
was at all flattering. In fact, some of the comments were downright nasty.
I felt bad. I didn’t even think about how my impending comment would go over
with the ‘audience’ (not knowing their persuasions). But after hearing all
of the nasty and almost offensive (to me) characterizations, I succumbed to
the temptation and jumped right in with my own Jane-bash:

“Ya know, maybe that’s all true, but the thing that really bugs me, is she’s
such a hardcore, stereotypical, in-your-face Democrat.”
