Back to Wiesbaden (and DC-10 training)

It’s been quite a while since I’ve been to Wiesbaden, Germany. Over the 7 years (as of tomorrow) that I’ve had this job, we’ve had layovers in Frankfurt very consistently (though I, personally, didn’t go there for large periods of time). Several years ago, the company experimented with laying us over in outlying cities, specifically here in Wiesbaden and in Mainz. I liked both, though the downtown Frankfurt stuff isn’t so bad either.

The funny thing is, I’m not exactly sure why we’re here. I’m wondering if it’s because the company wants to experiment again to see if we like this better? There have been some complaints about our hotel in Frankfurt, so that could be the case. But if it is, you’d think they’d ask us for a review. Strange.

I’m doing my best to enjoy what is likely to be my last month flying the MD-11 for quite a while. On the 23rd, I start DC-10 Captain upgrade. I’ve received my schedule (more or less) and it’s going to be quite compressed (read: challenging). I commercial to Atlanta on the 22nd and am in ground school M-F starting (Wednesday) the 23rd through Feb 8th. The oral exam will be Feb 10th, and sim training starts right after that (the next day?) in Memphis. They’ve got my checkride scheduled for Feb 27th, which leaves 17 days to do all the FTD and sim training. Sounds pretty short. Guess I better get back to studying…
