Work news

In other news….

I’ve had regular bidlines every month that I’ve been able to bid so far. That’s June, July, and August (which I’m in the middle of now). So far, I’ve done two legs of flying as originally scheduled (on time, same cities, etc.). Tomorrow, I’m supposed to fly from here (Atlanta) to Nassau to Munich. Haven’t been to Nassau since my Comair days and I’ve never been to Munich before. Hopefully it’ll go as scheduled, but given my recent track record, I’m not holding my breath.

Another bid came out a couple days ago. Along with it, the company made an ‘official’ announcement about more airplanes. It’s confirmed that we’re getting another flyable DC-10. I say flyable because it sounds as though they’ve also picked up one or more DC-10’s that they are going to part out to keep our fleet of (soon to be) seven DC-10’s flying. Also, we’re getting three more MD-11 Freighters from Gemini (they shut down recently). That will be the first time we’ve operated GE powered MD-11’s. Wouldn’t want to speculate too much but maybe that’ll open the door for more passenger MD-11’s down the road? There are no Pratt powered passenger airplanes left in the world (aside from the five we currently operate). There are some GE powered ones left though (KLM’s and Finnair’s, and maybe a few more).

I’m frozen ’til the middle of next year, so I can’t go back to the MD-11 now even though I can, once again, hold it. Based on the way things have been going on the DC-10, I’m beginning to think I’ll go back to the -11 when I get the chance. But since I don’t have to make that decision until next year, I won’t say for sure. Just leaning in that direction…
