Why so quiet, you ask? Okay, so nobody’s asking me why I’m not making any noise. But I’ll tell you anyway, since that’s what LJ is all about… (isn’t it?!?)
Edi’s out of town for the week in Dallas at a Mary Kay convention. It’s their big annual ‘seminar’. I’m pretty sure she’s having a good time cause I’m not hearin a lot from her. She called tonight but we only talked briefly.
I’m enjoying the week with the kids. Actually, I’m getting a lot done. For some strange reason, I seem to be more productive when she’s not around. And I don’t just get more of *my* work done, I get more house work done, too. And the kids are happy, too. Ya know, if I had more time (as in, no job), I could do this for a living. I think she really *does* have it made!
Edison helped me fix her computer. The hard drive tray fans went out and all kinds of problems ensued. I replaced all 3 of them. The new ones seem to have slightly better fans, but I’d like something with *really* good fans. If you know of any good removable hard drive trays (as in RAID…ATA) with long-lasting fans for cheap (under, say, $35-40 each), please tell me where I can find such a thing.
Since I fixed up the hardware and she’s out of town, I figured this would be a good opportunity to fix up the software, too. I’m in the process of upgrading her from Mandrake 9.1 to Mandrake 10.0 Official. My first attempt didn’t go so well. I used the upgrade option and… it really blew chunks. Lots of kernels left (and not the right one there), and I couldn’t make the network work. Just wouldn’t ifup. Weird. So I reformatted (not /home, of course) and did a full install. That did the trick, but I lost a couple of goodies (Flash, etc.). I’ll have to work on that. Oh, and the Addressbook for K-mail vanished. I discovered it *overwrote* the existing one in the migration process. I wanna know who was the numskull who thought up that trick?!? Now I gotta boot my backup drive and fish her address book out and … anyway… It’ll all work out…
All that while I’m entertaining the kids, making them meals, doing the dishes (and even a load of laundry), getting ready for a backpacking trip, checking up on the house in New Hampshire… and now getting ready for a trip starting the 30th. Back to work!!!
Which reminds me. I’ve given up on school for the rest of the year. I dropped my Aviation Safety class. (I know, I’m rambling, but cut me some slack… it’s been a few days). Not only am I WAY busy, but I’m just kinda unmotivated. I’ll pick it up again next year…
