I did my annual recurrent training this week. It entailed two days of ground school in Atlanta followed by two days of simulator training in Memphis. The second simulator day is actually a checkride, so poor performance has significant adverse consequences.<\/p>\n
It went relatively smoothly. Day 1 was DC-10 systems ground school and there were only 4 of us (my sim crew: me, the First Officer, and two Flight Engineers) so things went fairly ‘efficiently’ (read: quickly). Day 2 was general subjects, parts of which were combined with flight attendants. Also, had our annual visit from management which, this year, was the VP of Operations for us. The news was mostly bad (economy sucks, business is down, etc. etc.), but there were a few encouraging things in there.<\/p>\n
Then we (the four of us DC-10 people) came to Memphis for our sims. Both of them went fairly smoothly. It’s never perfect, but I was satisfied. The F\/O did about the best two-engine-inop approach and landing I’ve ever seen. A few other things were not quite perfect but that’s normal. We got it all finished up to the satisfaction of the check airman and learned a few things in the process, which is really what matters. The engineers did a great job, too (it was the first recurrent for both of them). <\/p>\n
So now I can relax knowing that is over with and turn my attention to surgery on Monday….<\/p>\n
