After 4 days off we made it back to the simulator today. Technically, again, it was supposed to be the last of the CPT (Cockpit Procedures Trainer) lessons, but we did it as a simulator lesson and are still ahead of the program. Tomorrow is technically simulator lesson #1.<\/p>\n
Today we did some abnormal start procedures (a hung start and a hot start). Then we taxied out and did some takeoffs with various flight director modes (one raw data, one with TO\/GA inop, and one normal). Did our airwork (steep turns, and three different types of stalls), followed by some holding practice and then right into a transition to an ILS hand flown. We did a low altitude go around, published missed and right into a non-precision approach (mine was a VOR, the F\/O did an NDB). And we did some crosswind landings, which, in my opinion, are almost a waste of time in the simulator (it’s difficult to judge things in the sim like you would the airplane). <\/p>\n
All in all, the period went very well. The non-precision approaches weren’t on the agenda until tomorrow, so we’re ahead on that stuff. And they actually went well. The go arounds are going smoothly, and we both seem to be comfortable. And the engineers seem to be doing well, too. <\/p>\n
Tomorrow is more of the same but starting to add in some abnormal things. Rumor has it we’ll do a PAR approach (Precision Approach Radar), we’ll demo a standby instrument approach (which, if it really happened, would be a pretty serious problem), and do more of what we did today. <\/p>\n
So I better go do a little studying to get ready for tomorrow \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n
